How it all started
Steri-Spray was the idea of water treatment specialist Ian Helmore after he found a positive Legionella sample on one shower during routine water testing at a hospital and all 50 showers had to be taken off line for two weeks. Ian didn't think it was acceptable for a hospital to be without showers for this period of time and resolved to come up with a solution. His knowledge of the different types of water treatment methods soon led him to the idea of incorporating ultraviolet light into a shower system.
Testing & Patents
Steri-Spray showers are the culmination of many years of research and development, followed by rigourous independent testing by the world’s largest and most authoritative facility, NSF International.

Steri-Spray has passed NSF International Standard NSF/ANSI 55 for ultraviolet microbiological water treatment systems, classes A&B Alarm and Bacterial testing. This testing found that Steri-Spray showers safely achieve more than double the required germicidal kill rate for Legionella bacteria, without the use of harmful chemicals.

In addition, Steri-Spray is protected by comprehensive patents, trademarks and design rights worldwide.
Dragons' Den
Inventor of Steri-Spray, Ian Helmore appeared on Series 5 of the BBC2 venture capital investment programme Dragons' Den, securing funding and the backing of Deborah Meaden and Theo Paphitis. An investment of £145,000 was made by the two Dragons in exchange for a 40% share in the company. This investment together with their advice has enabled Ian to fully design, develop and launch an innovative and potentially life saving range of shower products to service the commercial shower market.
