Health Protection Agency Report on Steri-Tap against Pseudomonas Aeroginosa

Following the outbreak of Pseudomonas infection at Belfast NHS Trust, Dragons Den Inventor Ian Helmore was asked if we could make a tap utilising our shower technology. Steri-Taps were designed, manufactured and installed within one week into their special care baby unit. The Health Protection Agency then completed testing of Steri-Taps efficacy against Pseudomonas Aeroginosa and commissioned an independant report.

Our original design of tap spout contained a screw-in flow straightener at the outlet, the same as other standard commercial taps on the market, in fact the standard taps that were removed from the Special Care Baby unit at time of the outbreak unit were tested and these screw in flow staightners were shown to be a potential bacteria trap that can promote bacterial growth. So, our design was altered and made without the flow straightener, the new spouts made within two weeks and installed at Belfast NHS Trust. It was this new design which has been independantly tested by the HPA, and is the subject of the following report.

The report shows that Steri-Tap is 99.99999% effective at killing Pseudomonas Aeroginosa
